In his teen years hip hop was the only music that mattered to Alexander Krygsveld. Until one late night when he was 19 he crashed his mom’s house party… and loved what he heard. Wanting to explore the uncharted terrain of different genres of house, minimal techno, trance, and electro he surprised his mom when he came home with a used Traktor Kontrol S4 mixer. No surprise, she thought it was pretty cool that he was going to pick up on a love for electronic music she developed listening to the early pioneers in the 1970s, like Brian Eno and Jean Michel Jarre. Exposed to a range of new and old electronic music through the Winnipeg electronic music scene over the past few years, he has been fueling his growing passion for mixing. A protégé of Nathan Zahn, he leans towards a high energy high bass mix of minimal tech, tech house, and techno. Growing up traveling back and forth between the US Virgin Islands and the west coast of Canada, Alexander Krygsveld became, through no fault of his own, a transplanted Prairie brat, who skateboarded every parking lot downtown and had more than his share of broken bones to prove that passion. These days, he puts his energy into growing the bouncy catchy mixes that encompass the sounds that make people want to dance. In 2013 Alexander premiered at the Connect Music Festival in Regina, branching out of the house party scene to join DJs whose mixes he has been inspired by in the Winnipeg clubs like the Pyramid, the Albert, the Event Exchange, and the thriving local after-party scene. Alexander always makes each mix different and unique, always using new tracks and samples. He currently is a resident DJ for an event called DEEP you can also find him at the Back 2 House events at the perennial Pyramid club, put on by the house fanatic Dave Rad, or the more intimate Sanctuary events at the Loft. Also has played at the after hours spot called Underground Revival, spinning sounds from European producers including Louie Cut, Avrosse, Zoo Brazil, Droplex, Zareh Kan, Minimal Allianz, Stephen Advance, Paul Kalkbrenner, Luca M, Uto Karem and many many more!
