Hanging Mary Ann are far more than just your average rock band, they’ve taken a concept that’s based on English history and have delivered it
with a passion and ferocity that can’t be faked… Taking their listeners through an emotional ride of love and hate whilst portraying
the life of Mary Ann Cotton, England’s first documented serial killer (found guilty of 21 counts of murder, including eleven of her thirteen children).

Lee Morrison and Glen Savage came together from a previous project and agreed something was missing. Energy!
They quickly turned their attention to finding just that. Symon Minter, known for percussion of Kent band Jairus,
they knew they found their third addition. Quickly hitting the studios, they released their first Single and Video ‘In Exile’
September 2014, free via bandcamp, but are gearing up for release of their new Single ‘One Short Drop’ taken from the hanging method
used by ‘William Calcraft’ to execute Mary Ann. They hope to release this along with a music video that will capture the urgency of the Single towards the next few months. ‘We’re proud of what we have achieved with the new Single’ says Glen, ‘I feel we’ve raised
the bar in regards to what we’re capable of a band, and how we can tell a story or paint a picture through personal emotions’.

HMA have been measured to the likes of Thrice, The Chariot and Glassjaw to name a few, but in truth we don’t really know their genre,
they don’t have one, it really does depend on the story they’re telling and even then it’s a variety. But one thing we can all agree
on is that its catchy as hell and has an eerie presence that’s infectious!

Predominantly what HMA want is to share their music and concept to music lovers whilst giving one hell of a story based
on a bitter truth. ‘With two Single and Video releases, not to mention an EP release next year, I think we’re ready to get on the road
and tour, excited for the future is an understatement ‘ says Lee.

But why do Hanging Mary Ann use such a concept to deliver their music you ask? We asked the same thing.
‘All of us in HMA have experienced a loss of life, bitter relationships, we’ve endured things that no one should have to go through,
but… we’ve also came through the other end. I guess we didn’t want to come across preachy, so we done some research and stumbled across
Mary. We all agreed that it was perfect subject matter to, I don’t know, release some tension I guess’ explains Lee.
‘Grieve in many ways’ added Glen, ‘ The story of Mary has greed, love, hate and regret written all over it, it’s a perfect analogy’.
Symon then cut in to say, ‘But at the same time we have a lot of fun playing live, the energy and passion just takes over and we all
have an awesome time, we just love what we do’.
