Jon Letts is a bassist/composer from Negaunee, Michigan. Letts started playing music at 8 years old taking guitar lessons from his father Michael Letts. At 13 he began playing bass and studied with bassist David Ziegner. By age 16, Letts was performing around Upper Michigan with his high school jazz band. After high school, he continued to play professionally on the Marquette, MI music scene, performing regularly with guitarist Travis Swanson, Detroit saxophonist Dane Bays, rapper D-Priest, as well as the Marquette Symphony Orchestra. While in college, he also performed with musicians passing touring through Marquette, such as Kevin Mahogany, Bill Carrothers, Ingrid Jensen, and Billy Flynn. He also performed in the pit orchestra for various theatre productions in the Marquette, MI area, including The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Cinderella, and Songs for a New World. Letts also directed the band for Northern Michigan University's 2010 production of RENT. In 2011 he had the privilege of studying with renowned bassist Richard Davis. In 2012, Letts moved to Portland, OR and became involved in the city's vibrant scene, performing with Portland jazz mainstays Dick Berk, Bill Beach, and Ron Steen. He also worked with blues singer Earl Thomas, and singer/guitarist Ben Rice. While in Portland Letts studied with bassist David Friesen and drummer Alan Jones.
