They Were Better When They Got Better: how actors reinvented themselves

It’s never easy for actors to scrub off the roles that originally made them famous. But, oh, how we love it when they reinvent themselves and become something completely unexpected.

Alright, alright, alright, here’s an actor who reinvented himself for the best. Matthew McConaughey used to be known for his beautiful golden hair and handsome smile in romantic comedies such as The Wedding Planner or How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days. Luckily, award-winning films like The Wolf of Wall Street and Dallas Buyers Club, gave him the chance to reinvent himself and demonstrate his versatility as an actor. His role in True Detective is mind-blowing. We aren’t saying we prefer this Matthew than the rom-com one. We are simply thanking him for giving us the opportunity to see the new, complex roles he is interpreting.

John Lithgow is that guy who is in funny films. Oh wait, not anymore! You might remember him from How I Met Your Mother as Barney’s Legendaddy. However, John’s career began with horror films and is now back to horror/thriller tv-shows. From a paranoid passenger in  “Nightmare at 20,000 Feet” in Twilight Zone: The Movie (1983), to a psychopath serial killer in the show Dexter, John re-embraced his dark side, and it couldn’t have been more creepy.

Personally I prefer humans than vampires, but luckily Kristen Stewart won’t have to think about that anymore. Camp X-Ray will come out mid-October and will star Kristen Stewart as a Guantanamo Bay military woman guard who builds an unusual friendship with one of the detainees. We have seen the trailer and it would seem Kristen has reinvented herself and embarked in a complex and problematic role. We were genuinely convinced by the bits and pieces of her performance shown in the trailer and we can’t wait to watch the film.BB-explore-S4-980x551-clean

From an immature father of three restless boys, to a methamphetamine producer and seller, Bryan Cranston reinvented himself for the best of the best of the best there can be. Breaking Bad has become Cranston’s trademark. As it would be too boring to count all the awards the series won, we will just praise his work and say that he is the one who knocks!
