Zev Burrows is a composer and lyricist for stage and screen. With his original compositions regularly featured on major network and cable television channels including PBS, Netflix, NBC, BBC, and ABC, his latest film work includes the lyrics of the song “Inner Forces”, featured in the documentary “Unconditional”, and the score for the Gallery Players’ feature film production of “Macbeth”. He received his Bachelor of Music from Berklee College of Music, and has composed the scores for many award-winning projects, including the animated short film “Fox Tale” (finalist for 2015 CG Student Awards Best Film of the Year), and the Directors Guild of America award-winning short film “Absent” directed by Sudarshan Suresh. A graduate of many acclaimed industry workshops and programs (ASCAP, BMI, Dramatists Guild, SCL), he has provided additional music/orchestrations for the feature documentary “Sky Blossom“, directed by MSNBC news anchor Richard Lui. In 2018, Zev also composed original music for Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s (MIT) Online Course Development.
For his work in musical theatre, Zev is an inaugural member of Theatre Now‘s National Musical Writers Group and is currently developing a new musical with lyricist/librettist Makena Metz. His musical “The Pledge” was selected for the Madison New Works Lab at James Madison University for 2019, where it received a two-week workshop and two performances. Most recently, his 10-minute musical “J & Dot” tied for Best Play at the 2020 Woodside Players Summer Festival, and his musical “A Broken Play” was featured as part of the Dramatists Guild’s Friday Night Footlights Reading Series in February 2021. A member of ASCAP, ASMAC, SCL, and the Dramatists Guild, Zev resides in New York City, where he has had the opportunity to work alongside industry luminaries such as Alan Menken, Doug Besterman, Larry Blank, John Clayton, Rob Cookman, and Ned Ginsburg.

BACKGROUND
I live in the Bronx, playing gigs in the Lower East Side, Brooklyn and Queens with my two indie rock / punk bands Pacer and Faculty.
I have over ten years of experience producing, mostly with Ableton Live (though I am proficient also in Logic Pro and FL). I have extensive works in genres as disparate as EDM, hip hop and rock - whose lineage extends back to such pioneers of experimentalism eclecticism as Steve Reich, Chuck Berry, Brian Eno, Kate Bush, and Jimi Hendrix.
OVERVIEW OF EXPERTISE
As the work on my portfolio will showcase, my ability to produce and play in a way that brings forth the strongest elements in a song unites my creative endeavors. The eponymous Faculty album was a project I engineered purposefully to have a great deal of "room" sound, as banter and movement in the recording space during the 1 week session lent itself to the album's loose, DIY feel, while the production still adheres to standards of compression that are mandatory for the modern listener. My rock albums under Faculty and Staff (on soundcloud and bandcamp) are engineered, by contrast, very claustrophobically. Across my instrumental works can be heard a great breadth of auditory landscapes and innovative production techniques.
HOW WE CAN WORK
I can give you access to a DIY recording space here in my apartment in the Bronx, near Rose Hill's Fordham campus, though the daily rate for that will be higher, because this makeshift studio will have access to a variety of in-studio musicians other than me, including a drummer, a keyboardist, and a mandolin player / lap steel guitarist. I will of course be willing to provide session work as a guitarist/ bassist/ vocalist/ songwriter no matter where or how we convene.
I often prefer midi controlled drums, because, despite the tedium of inputting drum-hits one at a time, I find that the precision achieved in the end result is well worth it, while the organic intensity of a live drummer can be emulated through note velocity and strategic placement of drum hits. Nevertheless, Ben Miraglia, drummer of Pacer (the finest rock percussionist I've had the pleasure of playing with) can be enlisted if we want a reliable session drummer. To write, record and produce a rock song in a single session with me is very doable.
My help will be as hands on as you'd like. I can lay down all the tracks if you have a song idea, I can help you write lyrics, or I can simply set up the hardware, mic you up and let you rip.
