Hello,

I am a twenty-one year old student filmmaker currently based in Brighton. This particular project is still in its research stage, with the view to create a short film from an original screenplay that I am working on. The screenplay will focus on one morning in which a grandson (in his mid-to-late twenties) visits his grandmother (who suffers from dementia) and helps her get up, dressed and makes her breakfast. The grandmother, named Enid, suffers quite severely from dementia and requires almost constant care. The grandson must constantly reassure her and has the unenviable task of reminding Enid that her husband passed away years ago. This film is as much about the grandson’s struggle with how best to help his grandmother as it is about her suffering and confusion.

I am more than happy to go into more detail in a further discussion and many aspects of the project are still to be confirmed. The character of the grandson could be swapped for Enid’s son (mid thirties to mid forties). Being a short film, shooting days are not likely to exceed 2-3 at most. This is a personal, independent project and will have an amateur but competent crew and a high production value. We have access to Blackmagic’s pocket cinema 4K camera and industry standard audio recording equipment as well as Arri lighting rigs.

Having seen how destructive and heart-breaking dementia is for families, it is very important for me to make a film that portrays this situation with complete realism. It is a window into a very real problem that many families face. We would be looking to shoot in the summer of 2022.
