Kickstarter funded project - Story of Uhmed

My name is Sly Livingstone, I’m an actor, producer and content creator from the UK.
2 years ago I produced a Shortfilm for Mental Health Awareness called Be Kind Shortfilm. It included people from all around the world and also people from the deaf community.

Thats how I met a deaf storyteller from Kerala, India called Anantha Lekshmi who introduced me to her amazing work. Her stories are told from a deaf persons perspective. In India deaf people face alot of descrimination so her stories often reflect those experiences.

Anantha has been writing since she was a young girl but her stories remained unknown due to her lack of confidence and also opportunity.
Thats where I came up with the idea to showcase her short stories on Youtube using visuals and subtitles.

This has so far generated thousands of views and media attention from The Indian express newspaper who did an entire article about our collabaration. Her Local President Shiburaj Krishna has also presented her with awards for bringing Pride to the community, being a great role model and being an inspiration to the local children.

The next step is to collaborate an animator to create a 2-3 minute simple style animation for The story of Uhmed. A visual version of the story is available on YouTube.

We have raised £1000 on Kickstarter for the project which is our budget. The animation will not require any dialogue and not any complex movements.

We originally went for a different story called Suhana but very difficult to budget for due to being more complex and longer in duration so decided with Story of Uhmed as our first animation.
