Colorful 5-7-second animation for video series intro
My team is looking for an animator to put together a short 5-7-second animation as well as some secondary deliverables for the intro to a YouTube series we are developing.
Pasting brief below (unformatted) in this field, but please follow to this link for the formatted brief w/ hyperlinks:
Beat Science deconstructs and demystifies the creative process by shining a light on Epidemic Sound’s talented roster of music producers. In each episode, a producer tells the story of one of their favorite tracks by breaking down its elements and tracing its creation, from inspirational spark to final mixdown. Packed with insights, Beat Science is a treasure trove of creative and technical knowledge that imparts wisdom not only to music producers, but also artists and storytellers in every medium.

Match aesthetic of intro animation
MP4 (or MOV) files, exported as RGB+Alpha

Any other project files associated with these assets
BEAT SCIENCE INTRO ANIMATION CONCEPT
Simple animated MIDI controller or MPC with buttons lighting up, moving, bursting with color and life. (See image1, image2, image3, and image10 for reference). We want the hardware to be light gray, similar to image7, but lighter. “Beat Science” appears on the screen of the MPC/MIDI controller as (music) notes in a very simple piano roll (static), with keyboard sounds clacking. Zooms into the screen of the MPC so that only the screen is showing with the “Beat Science” text. Epidemic branding should be displayed as either the logo or the logo + text in the bottom left corner of the MIDI controller.
How should the Beat Science script unfurl and look? That’s up to you, but look at the references below and in the folder. This might be a detail we would need to talk through to determine what is feasible.
Below the Beat Science text, include “an Epidemic Sound Series” in smaller typeface as a subhed using the Epidemic Sound font (see assets folder.)
The animation won’t consume the entire frame. It’ll be presented over unique B-roll from that specific episode’s shoot.
Would be cool to incorporate at least a few “signature” sound effects as a part of this animation either during the main animation, segway between main animation and title animation, or between title animation and body of the video (or all 3).
Should be distinctive but be ambient enough that it doesn’t clash with the song
We will be supplying a free 1-year subscription to Epidemic, which has a library of 90K sound effects.
MAIN ANIMATION: MOODBOARD & REFERENCES
Note: these references are generally meant to be thought starters for you to interpret in your own way.
Genius’ Deconstructed - both as overall model for storytelling and for opening sequence
0:21-0:30 is the basic template for how we want to start the first 10 seconds of each Beat Science video. Our version should be shorter—5-7 seconds between the two components—and more eye-catching.
Chiddy Bang - Truth music video (coloring/color range)
Overall: using the full color spectrum and movement of that color as a way of bringing inanimate objects to life; this can be as simple as possible.
0:00-0:01: Color sweeps the arch, starting from nothing, color continues to “flow” even after encompassing the arch.
0:02-0:05 and 0:12—rapid changes of color to bring text to life coud translate well to text in the Title Animation
0:17-0:18 and 0:29-0:31—rainbow color ripple effect on drums would translate well to the pads of the MPC
Jobii - Zilch cover art
MPC pads could be “nodes” of color from which rainbow/color flow, similar to the “eyes” in Vendela’s art
Similar paint pour technique
Breakbot - Baby I’m Yours music video (coloring/color range)
Similar to the Chiddy Bang video, what we like here is the use of full color range, the movement of color, and the pace of that movement.
Also dig the painterly watercolor vibe
Sarah the Illstrumentalist - Draco music video
0:00-0:19: the playfulness, trippiness, and organic feel of the animation style
Movie studio openings:
Disney: 6:52-6:57 is roughly the vibe and tempo for ~unfurling~ “Beat Science” in the MIDI piano roll (or the “an Epidemic Sound series” though it should be smoother and move horizontally.
7:39: Try it with a twinkle lighting up one part of the animation at the end of the unfurling accompanied by a light ding
MIDI Pattern Drawings That Tell a Story With Music and Colorful Imagery
Examples of MIDI art that “Beat Science” might look like
This program that can be used to type text into a MIDI roll
Additional MIDI piano roll examples:
Andrew Huang unicorn
Jacob Collier “spelling” out Valentine’s Day message of love in piano roll
Pimp My Ride intro
The swoopy zoom at 0:02 = potential inspo for zooming into the Beat Science title.
Iron Giant: The Final Piece
Potential inspo for how the components of the MIDI controller sort of beckon to each other and assemble like a sort of hive mind homing device. The MIDI device is almost sentient
Combo of scientific and organic
MIDI controller/Iron Giant = loose metaphor for how beats are made
Sarah the Illstrumentalist – Main Character Energy promo!
sound effects, bold bright colors + color combinations, playfulness,
Rhythm should be a tad slower than this
Magic School Bus intro
Overall playful tone
Cadence of edits and movement in 0:01-0:07
0:17-0:21 some transition inspos
Transition 1 (T1)
Drain transition: Color rainbow shaped like a target sucks inward towards the center as if a drain.
Inspo: the transition from 0:07 to 0:09 in this Pimp My Ride video. Looking for something in that vein but without the trees and even faster.
T3, T4, T5, and T6
These can be free-standing OR adapted/exported from main animation.
One of them should be adapted from main animation --> title card transition
Other potential inspo from Pimp My Ride video:
colorful ‘brick over’ animation at 0:01-0:02
Pinwheel animation at 0:05
Here are some hex codes from Epidemic’s brand guide, but it is not imperative that you use—we recommend that you basically go nuts and follow your instinct in regards to color.

For MIDI controller, try light gray background and wooden sides
image5 good basis as far as level of granularity of MIDI controller
