Responsibilities:
This person is responsible for writing and editing a variety of text stories for the Digital team from features to breaking news and live blogs. In this capacity, the reporter/editor will be working directly with reporters, other editors and seniors to launch on and help mold stories.
The ideal candidate has experience writing and editing breaking news text stories and working with reporters to help them shape their stories. The candidate will also be working collaboratively with our multimedia teams to make sure that stories are illustrated with video, photos and graphics.
The hours are generally 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. (Pacific time) Tuesday through Saturday, though the hours may shift occasionally depending on coverage needs. The full-time freelance status lasts for 30 weeks. To stay on beyond 30 weeks, this will become a part-time position, with under 30 hours a week.
Basic Qualifications:
- Minimum 3 years’ experience editing text stories, preferably for a digital news outlet.
- Ability to write and edit on deadline with speed and accuracy.
- Proven experience handling breaking news.
- Experience with web publishing and AP style.
- Ability to balance priorities, multiple projects and tasks.
- Brings energy and positivity to the group dynamic.
Required Education:
- BA or BS from a 4-year accredited college or university or equivalent experience
