Web Developer / Hosting Webmaster (Part-Time & Remote)

While this position is a freelance remote position, we require candidates to be US based, and available during our business hours, where we are located in the Eastern Time Zone.

Looking to hire a part time/on-call, self-motivated and disciplined freelance skilled WordPress Developer and Webmaster/Technician. Sentient Web Media, based in New Hampshire with offices in Massachusetts, is searching for a reliable Remote, Part-time web developer who understands WordPress/Divi, launching websites, email transfers, hosting and managing/maintaining our clients sites (about 400 client base of business websites throughout the U.S.).

The WordPress developer would implement functional websites (mostly using Divi) on WordPress for our clients. You will be responsible for the back-end development, including the implementation of any number of WordPress plugins as well as site integration and security updates.

In addition to the web developer role, you would also be required to manage our hosting web server systems. The webmaster/technician will be responsible for maintaining servers and ensuring websites are functional, and up-to-date. You will be responsible for installing and maintaining web server hardware, software, and security (much of which is automated). You may also be required to monitor the performance of the network, upgrade hardware systems, and implement back-end solutions for website malfunctions.

While most of the work can be done around your schedule, we do require you to be AVAILABLE/ON-CALL if a website or emails are malfunctioning for a client. Generally, this is expected within the hours of 9-5, Eastern Standard Time, Monday - Friday. Yes, something may happen at night, as well as on the weekends, but this rarely occurs. If a client’s website is down or their email is not working we have to be able to troubleshoot the issue in real time.

WordPress Developer Responsibilities:

  • Generating WordPress themes and plugins.
  • Troubleshooting content issues and debugging code.
  • Launching websites once approved by the client.
  • Knowledge of email hosting & management.
  • Managing the website back-end, including database and server integration.
  • Conducting website performance tests.
  • Debugging websites and ensuring software documentation is updated.
  • Evaluating code to ensure it meets industry standards, is valid, is properly structured, and is compatible with browsers, devices, or operating systems.
  • Conferring with teams to resolve conflicts, prioritize needs, develop content criteria, or choose solutions.

Webmaster/Technician Responsibilities:

  • Performing routine inspections and upkeep of existing installations.
  • Monitoring system performance to ensure everything runs smoothly and securely.
  • Implementing and ensuring website security and data protection.
  • Maintaining, updating, and optimizing hosting servers.
  • Monitoring and analyzing live website performance.
  • Recommending and executing program improvements.
  • Testing and maintaining backend and front-end applications.
  • Back up files from websites to local directories for recovery.
  • Researching and recommending new approaches to improve the networked computer system.
  • Providing technical support when requested.
  • Keeping up-to-date with the latest technology and programming trends.

Freelancer Responsibilities:

  • Formulating assignments in accordance with prescribed specifications.
  • Liaising with the production manager to clarify assignment-related expectations, as needed.
  • Submitting completed assignments in the stipulated format.
  • Registering as a taxpayer and filing your own tax returns on time.
  • Ensuring that your work equipment remains in excellent working condition at all times.

Requirements:

  • Relevant educational qualification.
  • A portfolio of web design and projects you’ve worked on.
  • Access to all equipment needed to complete tasks.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Goal-orientated and deadline-driven.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Ability to work as part of a team or individually on a project.
  • Availability outside of working hours to resolve emergency issues promptly.
  • Proven work experience as a WordPress developer.
  • Proficient in PHP, CSS & My SQL.
  • Proficient in cPanel hosting.
  • Knowledge of JavaScript & HTML.
  • SSL Certificate integration & maintenance.
  • Practical experience with content management systems.
  • Solid understanding of web design and development principles.
  • Working knowledge of programming languages and operating systems.
  • Reviewing and performance-testing existing server systems.
  • Installing and maintaining web server hardware and software.
  • Optimizing website hosting server networks.
  • Ensuring the quality of web products and services.
  • Troubleshooting network and website hosting server failures.
  • Proposing and implementing solutions to website malfunctions.
  • Monitoring and maintaining website system security.
  • Backing-up web servers and providing recovery options.
  • Knowledge of website management tools.
  • Knowledge of IT security.
  • Knowledge & Management of Synology NAS.
  • SEO knowledge is a PLUS.

Contract Freelance Pay:

  • Guaranteed minimum of $1200 per month (about $16,000 per year) for monthly hosting/maintenance work. (About 35-45 hours per month, pending the number of clients and work that particular month).
  • $28 per hour for additional work/projects. Most work is based off of a set payment price per project. Anything outside of set projects are paid by the hour. (About 15-20 hours per month, pending the number of client updates, new website builds, etc.).
