Location: Washington, DC

Contract: Part-time

Responsibilities:

  • Transform conceptual ideas into fully fleshed out designs with the design team.
  • Design and develop adaptable online and social features (e.g. game modes, ranking systems, leaderboards, player expression, chat systems, etc.).
  • Design and create platform UI assets.
  • Manage cross-platform development and deployments for both Android and iPadOS.
  • Design and develop the game platform architecture using the Unity game engine.
  • Optimize network traffic for a smooth gaming experience.
  • Get the real scoop from pilots and air traffic controllers on the team on how air traffic control works so you can put your mind into their world.
  • Work with innovative, talented aviation experts and software engineers to build the game.
  • Be respected as the game design/creation subject matter expert.

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years’ experience in mobile game design and development with the Unity game engine on Android and iOS platforms.
  • Experience with the gamification of training materials.
  • 3+ years’ experience in 2D and 3D design skills with an emphasis on generating game assets.
  • Strong understanding of OOP in C#.
  • Have completed the development of at least two games with a team.
  • Strong systems architecture design ability with an eye toward both feature development and live operations.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, gaming, or other relevant field or equivalent professional game design and development experience.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with an emphasis on technical writing.

Desired Skills

  • Database development experience with .NET and Microsoft SQL Server.
  • Experience with AWS.
  • Experience leading a project team, including tasking, budgeting, and presenting out on deliverables.
  • AR/VR experience.
  • Web development experience.
  • Machine Learning (ML) experience.
  • Experience with Azure Cognitive Services.
  • Familiarity with aviation and air traffic control concepts.
  • Experience working with Federal or DoD agencies.
  • Ability to receive and offer constructive feedback to iterate and improve upon content and features.
  • Self-starter who is driven and strives for both excellence and efficiency.
  • Ability to work effectively independently and as part of a team.

Gamify Air Traffic Control (ATC) training! We want your creative ideas to design a cool, interactive game for Air Traffic Control training! Loosen things up and make the serious job of controller training fun and design a cloud-based system that will train air traffic controllers through gamification of learning and arcade-style activities. You will design game features such as the overall game storyboard, integrated student and class metrics to increase training efficiency, ways to incorporate participation from other controllers, pilots, etc. playing in the game, and other neat stuff.
