Position Overview

The History of Black Writing (HBW), a research unit in the English Department at the University of Kansas, is seeking a Video Editor to join our team.

This is a part-time position on the Lawrence campus, 5-20 hours/week.

Job Description

  • 70% Editing and updating closed captions on YouTube videos.
  • 15% Video content editing, such as adding/removing slides or deleting dead space.
  • 5% Update Excel tracking sheet.
  • 5% Email correspondence with Project Manager and Coordinator and/or Zoom check-in meetings.
  • 5% Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Federal Work Study eligible/award
  • College undergraduate or above
  • Closed caption or transcript writing experience
  • Proficiency in video editing
  • Computer literacy, including Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, etc.)
  • Strong attention to detail as indicated from application materials.
  • During the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: 1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or 2) be pre-enrolled in upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or 3) be enrolled in summer session or 4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments)

Preferred Qualifications

1. GPA of 3.0 (B) or higher

1. Ability to work independently and in group settings

2. Good communication and decision-making skills
