uniE621 Huffington Post – Listen to America
See more at sugacyan.com/listen-to-america A year Prior to the release of this project, The #HuffingtonPost took on a road trip across the #USA interviewing around 1,700 people about their concerns for their communities, politics and economic future. In 2018, in preparation for the midterm elections, #HuffPost asked us to expose a cross-section of views and opinions from these interviews in an interactive format. The design solution is an unbroken line that follows the users down the page and draws the portrait of each individual, one at a time, as users listen to their thoughts. The line is a metaphor for the connections between people, places and ideas. I was part of the team that pitched the #creativeconcept, co-art directed the project and made several of the #illustrations myself. The project needed more than 200 single stroke portraits, which was a difficult task given the tight time constraints, so I helped scout a couple of freelancers, #managed them and guided them to deliver files compliant with what our developers needed to make the idea sing. The project went on an win several awards including gold at the Best Design Awards – Large Scale website category, a CSS Design Award site of the day and a FWA.

    uniE621 Huffington Post – FML
See more about this project at sugacyan.com/fml #HuffingtonPost Highline and Gladeye teamed-up to explain how #millennials ended up the poorest generation since The Great Depression. I worked as #illustrator, #animator and #design lead here in New Zealand under the art direction of the HuffPost team in New York. Together we crafted the story around the concept of a rigged, unwinnable #game to upset the darkness of its content with a bright visual direction that's both charming and unsettling. Early on we decided to draw a parallel between #pixelart, an aesthetic created out of necessity about the same time the first millennials were being born, and the disintegration of the financial safety net. We were set on a deliberatley jarring tone that resonates with our times: a whirlwind of flash and entertainment in the face of certain doom. This project became Huffington Post's most read story of 2017 despite it coming out in December and it won quite a few awards including a #Webby for Best Individual Editorial Experience, three #SPD awards including Best Editorial Experience, Best Animated Content and Best Custom Feature Design. It claimed site of the day for the FWA, #Awwwards and CSS Design Awards and it won Silver in the Large Scale Website category in the New Zealand Best Design Awards.
uniE621 thinkful – WTF is Data Scince?
The Thinkful team commissioned a long-form editorial story about data science called simply: “WTF is Data Science?”. Our solution took most people’s immediate reaction to the words “data” and “science” (boring and confusing) and flipped that on its head. We aimed for a design that was bold, confident, entertaining and interactive. I #artdirected this project and also created most of the #artwork and #animation, I worked closely with my team of developers and 3D artist in order to foster a creative environment of collaboration that resulted in a tightly designed outcome that runs super smoothly and was achieved in a relatively short timeframe. This project has won an Awwward Site of the Day, a CSS Design Award and will be featured in a book by Sandu Publishing called Interactive Design for Screen. uniE621 Garage Project
New Zealand #craftbeer heroes Garage Project never slow down, constantly releasing several bold and surprising brews. uniE621 Huffington Post – America's Most Admired Lawbreaker
See more of the project at sugacyan.com/huffington-post-americas-most-admired-lawbreaker In 2015, The #HuffingtonPost published an epic 15 chapter exposé by New York Times bestselling author Steven Brill about the saga of corruption surrounding Johnson & Johnson CEO Alex Gorsky concerning the aggressive push of the antipsychotic medication Rispedral to children and the elderly and it's devastating effects. I was part of the team that created the #design and UI of the piece. I helped guide the #artdirection and produced over 60 #illustrations in the space of a month. When the dust settled, the piece went on to inform the lengths that big pharma can go to produce unimaginable profits. It went on to win several journalism and design awards including an Awwward SOTD, a Webby nomination, a CSS Design Award and a Gold at the New Zealand Best Design Awards among other honours.

    uniE621 Paypr
Paypr was an #app dedicated to the complete eradication of paper receipts. I helped develop the #branding, provided art direction for the #website, took care of the UI design and developed the #illustrations and #animations. It was awarded a silver in New Zealand's Best Design Awards. See more at sugacyan.com/paypr
    uniE621 Vodafone Sailing
In 2015 we created a #game to promote #Vodafone sailing sponsorship. The game ran on browser and was fed real time wind conditions that greatly altered the likelihood of a record breaking race. I was the art director for the project as well as #animator, #illustrator and game designer. See more at sugacyan.com/games-campaigns-2011-2015
