The New York Post is opening a brand-new newsroom in Los Angeles, which marks a significant investment in the region. The California Post aims to deliver powerful journalism that prioritizes the voices of the people in California while maintaining a focus on hard-hitting news, entertainment, and sports coverage. We are seeking a **Senior Photo Editor** to join our Photo Department and elevate storytelling through compelling visuals in our fast-paced newsroom.

The Senior Photo Editor will report to the Photo Director and will be responsible for leading visual coverage of major stories, reacting quickly to breaking news, and collaborating with editors and reporters to ensure high visual standards.

Responsibilities

• Produce fast visual coverage on live breaking news and trending stories.
• Research live news, sports, and political events.
• Fulfill photo requests to produce high-quality assets for digital and print needs.
• Create visually appealing composites for the homepage.
• Pitch impactful photo stories and create online image galleries.
• Negotiate rates with agencies and freelance photographers.
• Assign and brief photographers.

Requirements

• 5+ years experience at a multi-platform digital media and print brand.
• Deep newsroom experience to thrive in a fast-paced environment under pressure.
• Excellent photo agency knowledge of mainstream wire services and agents.
• Proven photo research and social verification expertise.
• Excellent news judgment with knowledge of news, sports, and entertainment.
• Strong negotiation and relationship-building skills with agencies and freelancers.
• Professional knowledge in briefing and directing photographers.
• Digital-first mindset with experience adapting photos across platforms.
• Advanced proficiency in Adobe Photoshop.

Additional Information

This role requires on-site work 5 days a week, with a shift from 2pm to 10pm, including one weekend day. The pay range for this position is $85,000 – $100,000. The New York Post offers a competitive benefits package and is an equal opportunity employer, promoting a diverse workforce.
