I'm a composer, filmmaker, and hammered dulcimer player based between New Haven and NYC. My music has received performances at various festivals, universities, and venues throughout the United States and abroad. I've won awards from the Wortham Center for performing arts, Ione M. Allen foundation, and was most recently awarded the Charles Ives Scholarship from the American Academy of Arts and Letters. While an undergraduate at Bard College and Conservatory, I studied composition with Joan Tower, George Tsontakis, and Lera Auerbach, piano with Blair McMillen, and dulcimer with David Degge. While there I was the Conservatory’s Joan Tower Composition Scholar. For my work with film, I've won the Sidney Peterson prize in experimental film, “Best Original Score” by the Dreamachine international film festival, and Official Selections from other Montreal and Los Angeles based festivals. In 2021, I was honored as the National Hammered Dulcimer Championship finalist at the Walnut Valley music festival in Winfield, Kansas. After a fellowship at the Fromm foundation Composers Conference in 2022, I began graduate studies in composition at the Yale School of Music.

ANDREW ESQUER (pronounced ess-CARE) is a composer, arranger/orchestrator, lyricist, music educator, music director, and playwright who specializes in music for stage and screen. A 2022 graduate of NYU Steinhardt (M.M. Screen Scoring), Andrew previously attended San Diego State University (B.M. Global Composition), as well as California State University, Fresno, and Fresno City College, studying instrumental music education, piano performance, voice performance, composition, and music technology.
Andrew most recently collaborated with students in NYU Tisch’s Advanced Television Production Class, scoring the pilot episode of NOA’S ARC, a new show created by Sophie Alvarez. In his time as a composer for media, he has scored several student film projects, written multiple themes for sports broadcasts, entered several scoring competitions, and written for projects with his sunsetted videography company, MINEstudios. Among his student collaborations, two short films Andrew scored with filmmakers attending NYU Tisch were presented at film festivals run by Tisch professor Michael Schanzer. Currently, he is scoring the short thriller WHAT I SAW ON 14TH STREET, written and directed by Anthony Harvey.
In 2005, Andrew began his career as a music director with the Sanger High School production of DISNEY’S BEAUTY AND THE BEAST. He has since worked with theatre programs ranging from elementary school to collegiate theatre, netting roughly two dozen productions on shows including FOOTLOOSE!, DISNEY’S THE LITTLE MERMAID JR., FIDDLER ON THE ROOF, MEREDITH WILLSON’S THE MUSIC MAN, and GREEN DAY’S AMERICAN IDIOT. In addition, he has worked as a performer and synthesizer programmer for productions of JAMES AND THE GIANT PEACH and LITTLE WOMEN, the latter for which he also served as Assistant Music Director. Most recently, he made his off-off-Broadway debut as Music Director for the LATINÉ MUSICAL THEATRE LAB’S 4xLATINÉ (2022), a showcase of four 15-minute excerpts of musicals currently in development by Latiné writers, and delivered new orchestrations for Imagination Stage's production of CINDERELLA: A SALSA FAIRYTALE (2024). He currently serves on the steering committee for MUSE – Musicians United for Social Equity.
Andrew has also branched into work as a playwright and librettist.
