Sumaya Asvat is a Melbourne based illustrator, painter and educator. She believes in the power of storytelling to connect communities and is inspired to share diverse and unique stories through her art. Sumaya loves to create characters that reflect the diverse and wonderfully eclectic communities that she lives in. As an advocate for arts education and a former primary school art teacher, Sumaya has been facilitating creative workshops for all ages for over 20 years. Sumaya has illustrated four independent children’s books, including a resource for children from minority backgrounds for The Australian Muslim Women's Centre for Human Rights. Sumaya predominantly illustrates digitally and with watercolour.
