Domenico Vellucci (b. 1990, Italy) is a Rome- based saxophonist, composer and teacher active in the field of contemporary music research. He graduated in saxophone with top marks at the Conservatorio “S. Pietro a Majella” in Naples, then studied composition with Vincenzo Galdi, piano with Luigi Averna and he graduated Summa cum Laude in Composition at the Pontifical Institute of Sacred Music in Rome.
He has performed in festivals and exhibitions such as Umbria Jazz, JazzFlirt, Luglio Musicale a Capodimonte, Suoni dal Legno di Todi, Nuova Consonanza, Dei Suoni, Radici Sonore, Grido and in theatres such as “S. Carlo” in Naples and “Fenaroli” in Lanciano. I'm all for transparency and in music in general and filmmusic in particular, the best collaborations have a certain 'vibe'. Technically all composers will be able to write what you need. I'll try to find out what you want your audiece to 'feel' (jumpscares, yes, but what else?).
Here goes the 'official' part:
I am a contemporary classical composer whose work weaves together elements of modern classical music, cinematic soundscapes, ambient textures, and post-minimalist influences. Born in Belgium, I draw inspiration from a wide range of cosmopolitan experiences and cultural encounters, always seeking profound artistic expression in everything I create.
My compositions explore new sonic landscapes and aim to push the boundaries of traditional music. I strive to create work that resonates both intellectually and emotionally—pieces that invite introspection, evoke beauty, and often carry a touch of quiet melancholy.
Over the years, my music has been featured across a variety of multimedia platforms, including documentaries, short films, art installations, and dance performances. I’ve found a natural affinity with cinematic storytelling, and I’m often drawn to creating immersive atmospheres that help audiences connect more deeply with the visuals or movement they accompany.
My approach to composition is rooted in a strong foundation in guitar and media composition, enriched by years of experience collaborating with symphony orchestras. I’m particularly fascinated by delicate harmonic structures, layered soundscapes, polyrhythm, and polytonality—tools I use to sculpt music that is both intricate and emotionally grounded.
I also hold a master’s degree in psychology, a background that informs much of my creative process. Understanding human emotion and perception allows me to compose with a certain psychological depth—music that not only moves but lingers.
I’ve had the honor of being a finalist in several international composition competitions, and I share my passion through teaching both composition and guitar. Currently, I serve as Composer-in-Residence for Brussels Muzieque, a leading chamber music institution in the heart of Europe. In this role, I help curate performances and foster collaborations with distinguished international artists.
