In a world where film-making has essentially become digitised the world of film reel has taken a bit of a back-seat, I see the unique nature of the physical film reel as being amazing in both its shape and imperfections, this is most clearly seen when viewing silent films. The scratches the stains and the fact that even though hundreds of reels may have the same film printed upon them, they can still, like us, receive scars and blemishes from their craft and usage, their own finger prints.

Emotions can escape us, both in our darkest times and our greatest moments when we aren't sure what to say, 'Taking Away...' is a piece that was inspired by the inexplicable emptiness one can feel to the point that all soul seems to leave the body leaving one devoid of colour... I envisaged colour representing our life force/essence and the power force of our emotions, sometimes even the best of us lose all our colour and feel monochrome, do not despair, nothing is forever.
The mixture of pencil, water colour paint, pastel and charcoal are a mix of mediums that throw their opposing textures at one another. Wet and dry mediums that even though at first contrast intensely work together, I enjoy how the mediums clash when working together towards a finished piece, tactile for the hands and descriptive, the combination I find gives depth and life as well as texture.
