A few months ago, I came across a photo of the disappeared neighborhood of La Coracha in Malaga. It was a very picturesque area with houses made from stones from the Alcazaba itself.
After the construction of the tunnel that connects the park with Plaza de la Merced, that "great policy" led by Celia Villalobos decided to finish demolishing the remaining houses.
The neighborhood had already been in decline for several decades, partly due to the neglect from different municipal governments.
As a child, I think I might have walked around there with my parents at some point, but honestly, I don't have any memories of the area. However, when I saw that photo, I was filled with nostalgia for a slower, simpler time.
A time I haven't been able to savor much here, but I have experienced in other "less developed" countries where things move at a different pace, and people have more mundane concerns than those of this modern society.
In this small animation, I try to bring La Coracha back to life, even if it's only on a screen.
The truth is, if it had been preserved, Malaga would now have an added touch of authenticity, something that doesn't seem to interest the Malaga City Council very much, as they are rapidly turning it into an amusement park for tacky tourists and investment funds.
