About the job
MALKA is seeking a contract Junior Cinematographer for our Santa Monica office. As a Cinematographer, you’ll be working directly under the Director of Photography to ensure their needs in regard to lighting, framing, and operating of camera systems are met. Candidates must be ready to take on the role of Director of Photography and other roles on smaller productions such as camera operator, assistant camera, gaffer, grip, swing etc.

Candidates should be confident, enthusiastic and a motivated individual that can operate effectively under pressure in a fast-paced environment. This individual will be interacting with various clients, vendors, producers, and production staff on a daily basis to meet production needs. The MALKA team is made up of a mix of cinematographers, designers, animators and more who love to push boundaries, set trends, learn on the job and find creative solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Work with the Producers, Production Coordinators, Directors of Photography to execute on-site/set productions
  • Work with the Director of Photography to establish the equipment needs of each production
  • Communicate with Production Coordinators, Directors of Photography and Equipment Coordinators on equipment requests, & equipment order changes
  • Operate on-site production equipment including but not limited to; camera systems, wireless camera systems, camera support, lighting/grip equipment, teleprompter
  • Must be able to take on the following roles on-set as needed: Director of Photography, Camera Operator, assistant camera, gaffer, grip, swing, etc.
  • Work with the Equipment Coordinator as needed to make sure each production is properly equipped
  • Work with our various vendors and equipment rental houses throughout the greater NY/NJ area and around the country to ensure productions are properly equipped
  • Create remote production kits with setup guides and troubleshoot client issues on setup
  • Provide insight for future equipment purchases as needed and directed by senior staff members
  • Help maintain a clean and organized work space at all times in the equipment room, equipment holding bays, and studio space
  • Provide a proper checkout of various camera system equipment rentals
  • Purchase equipment/expendables

Requirements

  • Active drivers license with the ability to drive a minivan up to a 14ft box truck for gear pickups or on-site at out of state shoots
  • Must be able to lift 50lbs
  • Must possess strong communication skills with the ability to multitask
  • Must possess an advanced up-to-date knowledge of film lighting, grip equipment and camera systems
