The team
How would you like to work in the engine room of the world’s most established continuing drama?
Emmerdale are looking for an experienced Storyliner to join the team on a 12 month fixed term contract. You will need to have a keen passion for Continuing Drama, a flair for creative writing and love working in a tight knit team.

The role
We are looking for a motivated storyliner to generate story ideas and produce robust storylines to deadlines. Working predominantly remotely, you will talk through storylines, attend story conferences, generate ideas and write and edit storylines.
Key responsibilities:

  • To contribute ideas to story conferences and story talk throughs.
  • To create and structure dynamic and compelling storylines.
  • To work to the Producers brief, implementing and editing storylines to an agreed vision.
  • Liaising with writers/script editors as and when required.
  • Assessing research/cast availability and production requirements in accordance with producing storylines.

Skills you’ll need (minimum criteria)

  • At least 6 months experience of Story Editing, Storylining or writing on a drama.
  • Experience working on a continuing drama.
  • Good understanding of the TV production process.
    -Able to demonstrate a thorough knowledge and passion for Emmerdale.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to defend and debate story ideas to the team.
  • Experience pitching , debating and developing excellent story ideas.
  • Able to demonstrate an understanding of character, story and structure and the ability to write clearly and concisely in keeping with the Emmerdale house style and the audience’s needs.
  • Planning and organisation – the ability to think ahead and establish a course of action for self and others.
  • Proven writing skills to an excellent standard, along with a good eye for spelling and detail.
  • Must have strong editorial judgement and the ability to take initiative.
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft and Google Drive/ suite.
