Job Summary:

Disney Official Pin Trading has become an iconic part of our Guest experience; with our Cast in our Parks, online, and in retail stores all around the world. With an official twenty-year history of collecting and trading, Disney Pins have become a classic tradition for both the avid collector and the new generation of fashion forward influencers. The Product Design Manager is a key contributing member of the Disney Pin Trading Center of Excellence team. We are looking for a candidate that is passionate and knowledgeable about our brands – armed with the creative and technical skills to realize designs that inspire, surprise and engage audiences.

Responsible for the daily execution of product design and development of Owned & Operated products for the Pin Trading category from concept through production working with internal teams and licensees. You’ll Collaborate with internal and external partners to ensure we have the highest quality, consumer focused, trend-right product lines across all channels of distribution that build brand equity and meet financial targets.

This Product Design Manager (Project Hire) reports to the Product Design Manager of the Pin Trading Center of Excellence.

You Will

On any given day, you might:

• Concept, design, sketch, prototype (including leading art-to-product, 3D modeling, sample creation, fit sessions, and electronic breadboards, where applicable), deliver and present trend-right consumer centric product lines that feature best-in-class innovation and price/value for each tier of the value pyramid
• Lead and complete product approvals through online systems and collaborative approval meetings, ensuring we have high quality standards in character execution, in-depth storytelling, color, material, form and function while increasing profitability
• Design and approve all products by collaborating with internal and external partners
• Join forces with the greater product design and creative teams to drive up-front trends, overall creative direction and identify future areas of growth within the franchise and across product categories, including the preparation of custom design tools and retail pitches to differentiate by category
• Prepare creative/product retail custom design tool pitches to differentiate by category, and collaborate with Global Product Design teams
• Monitor competitors, product innovation and market dynamics
• Multi-task and prioritize multiple design projects, running simultaneously with varying levels of complexity

You Will Have

Here’s what you’ll need to be successful at this job:

• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience in field (e.g. graphic design, industrial design, toy design, fashion design)
• 5+ years of experience
• Prior experience leading others
• Solid understanding in hardlines/softlines categories (raw materials, plastic, textiles, print, pattern, graphic composition, manufacturing)
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Strong negotiating skills
• Strong illustration and character art skills required.
• Strong layout, composition, design skills required.
• Strong product design skills (e.g. 3D product design, technical design, sketching, creative application and manipulation of art, final mechanical art, fabric and trim identification)
• Strong computer software skills (e.g. MS Office, Photoshop, Illustrator)
• Enthusiastic, highly-creative, well-organized, pro-active, adaptable to quick change environment, being trusted to take ownership within a defined area.
