Position Overview:
As a Freelance UX Strategist at Instrument, you will play a key role in shaping the future of digital products and services. You are a natural problem-solver with a passion for simplifying complexity. You possess strong systems thinking skills, attention to detail, and an intuition for exceptional product design. You uncover insights and opportunities, consistently adding value and momentum to our work. Curiosity, a love for learning, and effective communication are essential qualities. Our projects typically require full-time support (40 hrs/week), Monday to Friday. Please indicate your availability in your application.
Responsibilities:
- Participate in projects from concept to completion, applying rigorous strategic thinking throughout
- Collaborate with and present to senior clients, manage their requests, and thoughtfully incorporate feedback
- Architect and facilitate discovery workshops, conduct user and stakeholder interviews, and lead brainstorming sessions
- Define and prioritize features and personas
- Create journey maps, user flows, information architecture, and wireframes
- Formulate hypotheses, moderate usability studies and concept tests
- Analyze and optimize based on quantitative data and A/B tests
- Work with team leadership to identify new strategy capabilities for existing and future clients
Requirements:
- Minimum 2+ years of experience in creating experience maps, wireframes, personas, user flows, and other UX deliverables
- Experience collaborating with creative and technical partners as a member of multidisciplinary teams
- Proficiency in user research and testing methodologies, including designing user testing sessions
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, able to articulate complex ideas to designers, developers, clients, and users
- Solid knowledge of modern design tools, workflows, and prototyping methods (e.g., Sketch, Invision, Adobe Creative Cloud)
- Experience in designing native applications for Android and iOS platforms
- Insatiable curiosity and a passion for learning about people, technology, cultures, and industries, which you bring into your work
- Background in business or brand strategy, with insights gathering experience for early-stage concept development
- Detail-oriented and natural problem solver, unafraid to dive into the details
- Strong sense of ethics and responsibility in understanding the impact of our work on the world
Pay Range:
- Expected pay range: $61-74 per hour (actual rate depends on engagement level)
- Company has three regional pay bands: US 1, US 2, and US 3
- US 3 is the base pay band (e.g., Portland, Houston, Miami)
- US 2 pays 7.5% higher than US 3 (e.g., Los Angeles, Chicago, Seattle)
- US 1 pays 15% higher than US 3 (e.g., Brooklyn, San Francisco)
