MUSIC ACCOMPANIST

Schedule: Seasonal; Fall and Spring

Class: 9, starts at $17.08 per hour - 23/24 rates not yet available

Starting Date: As soon as possible

This position closes at 4:00 p.m., on Monday, June 5, 2023 for internal applicants, but it is open until filled for external applicants.

POSITION PURPOSE

To plays piano for rehearsal and performances of school musicals. This position is essential to the student pit orchestra as it plays parts to support student musicians. To assist the vocal director and pit conductor in instructional activities and working with students. To provide piano accompaniment for rehearsal and performances for Fall Musical.

NATURE AND SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITIES

• Assist the music director in through rehearsal accompaniment and sectional rehearsals

• Perform other tasks to assist the vocal director, musical director and pit conductor such as recording accompaniment or part analysis.

• Assist in the supervision of small groups students in the after-school rehearsal as well as other settings such as practice rooms and concert venues.

• Flexible schedule required. Rehearsals are after school, in the evenings and on the weekends.

• Perform other duties, as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

• Must have 2 years of college, or hold an Associate Degree or completed the district paraprofessional training

• Knowledge of rehearsal practices and procedures and school operations and personnel.

• Ability to plan and organize materials for use in instruction

• Can demonstrate mastery on the keyboard instrument and musical theory knowledge.

• Knowledge of performance practice in all styles of music

• Ability to play all combinations of vocal parts simultaneously

• Can demonstrate mastery in sight-reading

• Ability to perform with pit orchestra under conductor’s direction

• Ability to follow and collaborate with the conductor, vocal director and musical director.

• Ability to project a pleasant manner and relate well to students and their requests for assistance

• Flexibility and patience in supervising and instructing students with a variety of skill levels

• Ability to work harmoniously with others and to communicate appropriately and effectively, both orally and in writing, with students, parents and staff

• Ability to maintain a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students and staff

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Moderate degree of physical stamina, with frequent lifting of up to 10 pounds. Must be able to play piano for 2.5 plus hours only with short breaks

• Ability to move freely to various locations within the classroom and or other supervisory settings.

• Frequent sitting, standing, walking and bending.

• Exposure to noise and activity of a school setting
