JOB DESCRIPTION

Fox News is looking for a creative, organized, motivated, curious individual with strong editorial and logistical skills to fill a Freelance Producer position in our Washington D.C bureau. This freelance opening is a hybrid position between the D.C. Bureau newsroom and the Fox News Sunday show.

The Freelance Producer will work with reporters to set up and conduct interviews, obtain information, write scripts, build graphics, and deliver compelling live shots and packages. The Freelance Producer will also work with Fox News Sunday, building fast-paced newscasts and generating creative and innovative ideas for guest segments and pieces. You must be willing to ask tough questions, get the latest elements into a story, and move content forward. Proactively seeking out additional information and pitching stories is critical to success in this position. A natural curiosity about news and strong editorial judgment is a must.

A SNAPSHOT OF YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Build fast-paced newscasts
  • Generate creative and innovative ideas for guest segments and pieces
  • Communicate daily story development to the executive producer
  • Responsible for graphics, writing, and all other editorial and production elements
  • Take part in editorial planning
  • Help book guest segments/studios
  • Work under tight deadlines to produce editorially and visually compelling stories
  • Find elements, log events, and identify news developments
  • Is read-in and familiar with daily developments on Washington-based and political stories
  • Work with reporters to set up and conduct interviews, ask questions and obtain information to craft and produce live shots, pkgs and digital content
  • Monitor wires, social media and other broadcast networks for news developments
  • Pitch and execute unique stories often overlooked by other media outlets
  • Identify and book compelling characters and knowledgeable experts for the assigned stories

WHAT YOU WILL NEED

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism or a related field of study preferred, or equivalent experience
  • 3-5 years of professional experience in a live television environment
  • Ability to write effectively and creatively
  • Thorough knowledge of domestic politics and business news
  • Strong writing and copy-editing skills
  • Ability to work under intense deadline pressure in a newsroom
  • Flexibility to work a variety of shifts including early morning hours and weekends
  • Familiarity with various D.C. government agencies
  • Keen understanding of how to set up interviews and gather news
  • Being a self-starter who can work independently, as well as a team player
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, multitask, and prioritize on a daily basis
  • Familiarity with iNews, Outlook, Dalet is a plus
  • Must be flexible with your schedule and willing to work both weekdays and weekends
