Job DescriptionPosition Goals:

The First Merchants Bank User Experience (UX) team is charged with the UX / UI design across all of our digital channels (web, mobile, desktop). We support our strategic business and technology partners across the bank to design data-driven and empathy-driven experiences for our users (consumer, business, internal, etc.).

The Senior UX Designer will act as a UX project lead and handle interaction / visual design. Our ideal candidate will be an advocate of human-centered design, be passionate about creating ideal experiences, and helping to foster innovative thinking with our partners. You will be an expert in UX methodology tools across ideation, prototyping, interaction design, and visual design (skills with research and usability testing are a plus).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct primary design activities, create high-fidelity design deliverables, and participate in and support research efforts.
  • Have strong interaction and visual UX / UI (User Interface) design skills.
  • Have experience acting in a UX lead capacity (work with cross-functional teams, set expectations, prioritize activities, lead design reviews, drive decisions, maintain schedule, communicate status, etc.).
  • Facilitate collaborative design sessions (sketching, ideation, wireframing, prototyping, etc.).
  • Participate in and support user research (generative / evaluative, focus groups / interviews / contextual inquiry, etc.) – facilitation skills are a plus.
  • Demonstrate design capabilities to create UX-adjacent assets: journey maps, personas, user flows, etc.
  • Have the ability to articulate the value of UX and the rationale behind your approach and design decisions.
  • Have experience working with standard and innovative UX design techniques, frameworks, and methodologies (design sprints, Design Thinking, etc.).
  • Help establish key design processes, patterns, and standards / library (working with marketing on maintaining brand consistency).
  • Have empathy for our users: understand their needs / mindsets and represent their interests.
  • Be proficient in key UX design tools (or equivalences): Adobe XD, Figma, Sketch, Adobe Creative Suite, etc.
  • Love UX: stay current and regularly learn about design, theory, practice, and tools.
  • Have a passion and enthusiasm for creating awesome experiences.

Position Requirements:

Education:

Bachelor’s degree OR Associate degree/two (2) years of college + two (2) years of related work/military experience OR four (4) years of related work/military experience (plus any additional required experience listed below).

Experience:

A minimum of five (5) years of experience in UX / UI design experience.

Other:

  • A portfolio demonstrating interaction design process, thinking, deliverables, and results.
  • Proficiency with UX / UI design tools (Adobe XD / Figma / Sketch or equivalent / Adobe Creative Suite).
