Job Description:

CBS News Special Event and the CBS News Political Unit are seeking a hard-working, diligent, and collaborative Political Editorial Producer to join the team coordinating election research for all events in the 2024 political calendar! This includes primaries, conventions, debates, election night and inauguration.

Reporting to the heads of Special Events and the political unit, this person will be responsible for researching, gathering and coordinating research for use by the news division during major political events. Must be able to work with different groups, including the political unit, polling unit, DC bureau, research, booking and anchor teams. Deliverables include comprehensive research documents for broad dissemination and more specific research tailored to anchors and correspondents. The Producer will work with the Special Events team to ensure relevant segments, graphics, video and guest ideas are created.

Additional duties include:

• Ability to take in-depth research, documents, and other material and distill most important information quickly
• Ability to come up with News nuggets and creative qualifiers to underscore an event’s significance
• Serve as editor for all political handbooks and packets distributed during campaign coverage
• Knowledge of sources that are reputable and ready for air
• Coordinate and collaborate with various different teams and individuals – political correspondents and producers, embeds, anchor producers, Special Events and the Political Unit

Skills:

• 5+ years of journalism experience in live TV news
• Experience working in a fast-paced environment and reacting with thoughtful programming ideas and creative storytelling
• Proven ability to make editorial decisions under intense deadline demands
• Excellent writing and communication skills; strong knowledge of Congress and campaigns
• Proven track record of dealing with breaking news and political coverage

Additional Information:

Hiring Salary Range: $110,000 - 130,000.
