Job Description:

Haunted Soiree Washington DC is now accepting VIDEO SUBMISSIONS for enthusiastic storytellers and movers who are interested in Halloween/Horror events!

Are you good at scaring people? Love wearing giant, creature costumes? We’re looking for all shapes and sizes to help move our guests through a night of macabre mystery! All types encouraged for scary, creature actors. Some latex, some costumes, some heavy makeup, some full sized Hollywood style creature suites. Their may be a part for you!

All candidates must be comfortable working in the dark, wearing masks and/or creature suits and, of course, have the stamina to scare all night long!

Qualifications:

• Ideal candidates will be 6’ or taller, comfortable in full body costumes and/or masks, as some will be wearing full Hollywood style Creature suits.
• Actors under 6’ tall may have the opportunity to play characters and engage directly with our audience.
• Movement skills are a plus. Any backgrounds with moving, lifting, tumbling, gymnastics, parkour!, roller skating/blading/biking/boarding/derbying.

Video Requirement:

Please record a short (1 minute or less) example of you moving through the space with a “predatory animal” in mind. Show us this “creature” stalking a victim for a few moments. Then evolve that “creature” into a human version. How would that creature learn to breathe, to stand, to walk? Mask work is encouraged, creativity is key! Use your breath, what sounds does this creature make when breathing, when moaning, when crying? How do they speak, if at all? The possibilities are endless!

Video submissions need be no longer than 1 minute in length. Longer videos may not be seen beyond 1 minute…unless it’s really, really good. Like Oppenheimer good.

Availability:

Applicants must be available for all dates: Sept 29-Oct 1, Oct 6- 8, Oct 13-15, Oct 19- 22, Oct 25-29, Oct 31. We perform Thursday and Friday evenings from approximately 5pm-midnight, and Saturdays and Sundays, from approximately 3pm-midnight.

Event Description:

Step inside the Haunted Soiree — a macabre cocktail party that is unlike any other party in town! Freely roam a mysterious mansion and experience a night of themed cocktails, macabre magic, sinister séances, tarot readings, strange roaming specters, live music, hidden secret games, giant Ouija boards and so much more!

Duties:

• Perform nightly as a creature and/or scare actor
• Collaborate with directors, producers, and fellow actors
• Attend rehearsals and participate in blocking, choreography, and other stage movements
• Use facial expressions, body language, and vocal techniques to effectively convey emotions and portray characters
• Follow the direction of the director and adhere to the artistic vision of the production
• Maintain a professional attitude and behavior both on and off stage

Experience:

• Previous experience in acting or performing arts is preferred but not required, we will train the right candidates on site!
• Strong communication skills and the ability to take direction effectively
• Creativity, imagination, and the ability to think on your feet
• Confidence in front of an audience
• Flexibility in adapting to different roles and performance styles

Pay: $18.00 - $20.00 per hour
