Job Description:

The College of Performing Arts at The New School (CoPA) is seeking two Temporary Assistant Production Managers (APM) to join its Production team. The CoPA Production department oversees all Drama Mainstage productions, Operas, Ensemble Concerts, and Class & Small Ensemble performances, as well as providing various levels of support for other CoPA activities, including meetings, lectures, workshops, and special events.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Assist Production Management and Producer, Theater and Opera with all Spring 2023 productions between contract date
  • Act as the 2nd Point of Contact for: Extant Play (BFA 1), New Victory Collaboration (BFA 2), MFA Guest Artist Podcast (MFA1) Through the Looking Glass (BFA3), APEX Festival (MFA2), New Play Workshop (MFA3), Devised Production (BFA4), and Site Specific (MFA4)
  • Assist Production Managers and Producer Cover tech rehearsals/work calls as needed
  • Oversee overhires (student and temp employees) working on the productions
  • Ensure rooms are prepared for production meetings and create Zoom meetings.
  • Assist with Schedule and run production meetings, including generating agendas and taking and distributing notes.
  • Assist with creating and maintaining the production calendars, schedules, detailed budgets, and reports.
  • Managing student conflicts and communicating said conflicts to stage management and CoPA Deans.

Assist with Budget tracking and Database entry, Budget and Petty Cash reconciliation

Assist Producer with Onboarding documentation for Union and Non-union overhire

Remain competent and current through self-directed professional reading, developing professional contacts with colleagues, attending professional development courses, and attending training and/or courses as directed by the supervisor.

Salary:

$28/hr

Work Mode:

  • Hybrid, minimum 2 day onsite at 151 Bank Street for 15 hour weeks with up to five days/week onsite as assigned or necessary for production operations
  • Nights and weekends are required.
  • Night or Weekend Rehearsal check-ins at Bank Street or offsite locations as needed

Average of 21 hours/week (minimum of 15 hours, maximum of 35 hours per week)

  • November 22-November 26
  • December 18-January 7
  • Martin Luther King, Jr. Day
  • Presidents’ Day
  • Time Off will be unpaid, except for acquired and approved NYC Sick Time

Minimum Qualifications:

TWO YEARS PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE (INCLUDING INTERNSHIPS/APPRENTICESHIPS) IN PRODUCTION, AND/OR STAGE MANAGEMENT IS REQUIRED

Strong analytical skills and ability to develop creative approaches to complex issues.

Excellent oral and written communication skills

Interrogative and independent style of working

Interpersonal skills that include management, teamwork and collaboration, conflict resolution

Time and task management skills, including re-prioritization and an ability to work graciously under strict time constraints

Understanding of the basics of the production process, with working understanding of the operations of Carpentry/Rigging; Lighting; Sound; Carpentry/Props; Costumes; and Video/Projections

Experienced or able to learn and develop fluency in The New School’s suite of data systems including GSuite, WorkDay, Tableau, Banner, and 25Live

Ability to maintain the health and safety guidelines provided by the New School and ability to ensure supervisees are following the provided procedures

Ability to adhere to university COVID-19 policy and requirements

Demonstrated commitment to Equity, Inclusion, Social Justice, and the transformative power of the arts and education

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in an educational or teaching environment

Experience with Opera and/or music production, or in film, media, and audio production
