3D Animator is needed in Remote, United States.

Contract: Full Time, Part Time, Contractor

Job Description:

We are looking for a skilled character artist who also has experience with Unity to upgrade our AI training app’s avatars to the next level.

The work is as follows:

  • 2 high quality (think AAA), photorealistic (but not uncanny valley), performant (will need to run in WebGL) human 3D avatars (one male, one female, clothing on both)
  • 3D skeleton rigging for both avatars
  • facial blendshape rigging for both avatars
  • avatar implementation into our Unity project (supported by 2 senior Unity devs)
  • 5 animations for the avatars (ex. idle1, idle2, unhappy, excited, thinking)

Our tech team is made up of 4 senior developers, 2 of whom are experts on the Unity development side, so we’re aware of the tightrope walk that is quality, photorealism without uncanny valley, and performance, so we’re looking for an expert 3D artist who can balance all those needs in an artistic way.

You will have lots of support with the avatar integration step (we want someone familiar with using Unity so that you can make tweaks to things such as blendshape values, visemes, materials, lighting, and textures, since they generally look quite different in Unity compared to other 3D programs). Essentially you’ll need to make sure the avatar looks good in our Unity scene (making lighting/material/texture adjustments as needed), and make sure your facial rig maps to our app’s system for driving it (more details can be provided in a pre-hire meeting).

Once this initial contract is complete (we estimate ~2-3 months), we will have other follow-on work available (more avatars, more animations, 3D environment work).

Job Types:
