Overview:

Oak Ridge National Laboratory is the largest US Department of Energy science and energy laboratory, conducting basic and applied research to deliver transformative solutions to compelling problems in energy and security. We are seeking a part time Software Engineer who will support the Emerging Cyber Group in the Cyber Resilience and Intelligence Division, National Security Sciences Directorate at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL).

Major Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Write software to support the research goals of our sponsors.
  • Conduct common data analysis tasks such as data cleaning, exploratory analysis, model generation, and visualizing results so that they can be communicated to a lay audience.
  • Read academic papers in order to understand the methods described and translate them into computer code, modifying as necessary for the application at hand.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Familiar with python and C programming languages
  • Experience using machine learning libraries and frameworks, such as keras and scikit-learn
  • Currently pursuing an undergraduate degree in a computer science related field at an accredited university
  • US Citizen

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Motivated self-starter with the ability to work independently and to participate creatively in collaborative teams across the laboratory Ability to function well in a fast-paced research environment, set priorities to accomplish multiple tasks within deadlines, and adapt to ever changing needs
