Job Description
Scotland’s International Environment Centre is looking to appoint a highly motivated, forward-looking Frontend Developer to join a multidisciplinary team working on the Forth Environmental Resilience Array. The Frontend Developer will be responsible for designing and implementing web interfaces to provide users with access to environmental datasets and will collaborate with a range of stakeholders to understand project requirements and translate them into functional frontend solutions. The successful applicant will also work closely with colleagues on the backend environment to create seamless pipelines for data ingest, analysis, and visualization. Other responsibilities include optimizing application performance, creating technical documentation, and disseminating results.
Requirements
- Master’s degree (or equivalent work-related experience) in computing science, software engineering, web design, or a related subject
- Proven experience in frontend development
- Enthusiasm and ability to design and develop innovative and efficient web applications for the visualization of geospatial and other environmental datasets
- High proficiency in web development using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
- Knowledge of frontend frameworks like React, Angular, and Django
- Advanced working knowledge of web mapping libraries such as Mapbox, Leaflet, OpenLayers, or ArcGIS API for JavaScript
- Experience with Microsoft Visual Studio or other IDEs and version control software (e.g., Git)
- Excellent interpersonal and time management skills
- Self-motivation, initiative, and independence in thought and working
Other Information
- This is a full-time, fixed-term position for 18 months.

- Work is expected to be undertaken in the UK.
