Job Description
Summary/Objective
The Animation Supervisor is responsible for supervising animation and related artwork from both in-person and virtual artists on multiple assigned projects and consulting when needed, on other projects in the 2D Studio. The Animation Supervisor works with the senior studio team and reports directly to the Director of Studio Programs.
Essential Functions
- Participate in meetings with clients to help assess the scope of the work needed.
- Work with the Director, Studio Programs - Animation, to determine the artist roles and times needed for the Director to determine the schedule and budget.
- Assign, track and review artists’ work to ensure it is completed on schedule and that it meets the standards and style as agreed upon with the client.
- Ensure the artists have all necessary software, assets, and materials needed to do their work, as well as making sure all in-person artists are equipped with an art station that has necessary operating systems, software, and that it runs smoothly to accommodate their work.
- Work with the Director to assign weekly challenges for all artists on assigned projects and help them stay on task with challenges daily.
- Work with the senior studio team to update and advise on evaluations and artist performance reviews
- Offer necessary, timely, written feedback to artists regarding their work on assigned projects.
- Review and call any re-takes during a variety of stages within the pipeline
- Work with other senior studio staff to ensure project trackers are updated daily.
- Communicate efficiently and in a timely manner any and all possible production issues or delays immediately.
- Participate in creative problem-solving issues in order to help stay on budget, on schedule and producing and delivering work to the client’s satisfaction.
- Respond professionally and willingly to all reasonable client feedback and engage with a professional tone and in a manner that informs and educates the client when there’s a need to push back on certain requests.
- Attend in-person (whenever possible) and actively participate in all work meetings, included but not limited to: bi-monthly Autism training sessions, daily studio meetings, production meetings, monthly All-hands meetings, One EM Committee meetings, and selected PAC meetings.
- Assist with pre-production and/or post-production for assigned projects
- Work with the senior studio team to ensure that the artistic teams carry out the style and direction for assigned projects
- Co-direct as needed on assigned projects
- Foster professional attitudes and relationships with clients and artists alike to model positivity for the studio and its team members
- Foster a strong sense of patience, professional maturity, and understanding as it applies to working with artists who have a variety of challenges
- Other duties as assigned by the supervisor
Required Education and Experience

- Possess an advanced knowledge of art and animation production life cycles and demands.
- Possess a solid knowledge of various design, art, and animation processes within the industry
- Strong eye for acting, action analysis, and overall animation skills
- Ability to communicate visually
- High level of interpersonal and communication skills via verbal and/or written techniques
- Demonstrated ability to think creatively and outside the box on artistic projects and in assisting artists enhance their skill sets
- Must have strong communication skills and a positive and professional attitude
- Must have enough knowledge and experience in the following software programs to assist all artists with their work to completion:
- Adobe Animate: traditional & symbol
- ToonBoom Harmony: traditional symbol animation and 2D rigging
- Storyboard Pro
- Premiere
- After FX
- Photoshop
Preferred Education and Experience
- Preferred experience with Shotgrid, Adobe After Effects, Adobe Premiere, and spreadsheets
- Bachelor’s degree in Art or relevant experience in 2D Animation and Art production
- Master’s degree in related field preferred
