Job Description:

Atkins Search is seeking an experienced Freelance Design Manager for a long-term contract on behalf of a UK leading, Tier 1 main contractor. This role will involve supporting the Design Lead and managing the design process for project delivery. The role offers a hybrid working arrangement, with the option to be based in the head office in South Birmingham or a mix of home and site-based work, depending on individual preferences.

Requirements:

• Previous experience as a Design Manager with a main contractor
• Experience in delivering multiple large-scale projects
• Familiarity with various forms of construction technology
• Construction-related degree
• MOD Clearance (desirable but not essential)

Responsibilities:

• Read and interpret drawings and technical specifications
• Manage specialist designers and supervise team members
• Navigate design package software
• Identify and meet customer needs and expectations
• Present plans clearly, accurately, and in a way that ensures understanding
• Seek better alternatives and overcome barriers constructively
• Set demanding but achievable objectives for self and others
• Balance multiple priorities and build consensus on the way forward

Other Information:

Client: A large, established national contractor with projects throughout England, specializing in government-funded projects across the MOJ and MOD sectors.

Remuneration: Competitive daily rates, paid weekly. Long-term contracts ranging from 3 to 12 months.
