Job Description
Creative Cultivators is seeking a passionate and experienced Video Game Design Mentor to provide 1-1 coaching with one of our clients. You’ll be responsible for guiding and supporting an aspiring game designer through their creative journey, providing invaluable mentorship and helping them hone their skills to become an industry-ready professional. This will include helping build a professional portfolio and creating demo reels from a collection of our client’s current projects.
Requirements
- 3-5+ years of experience in the video game design industry, preferably with a proven track record of successful projects.
- Strong understanding of core game design principles, mechanics, and narrative techniques.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to connect with and motivate individuals at different skill levels.
- Passionate about sharing your knowledge and experience with others, and fostering a love for game design.
- Ability to provide constructive feedback and guidance in a supportive and encouraging manner.
- Adept at creating and crafting an expert gaming portfolio to be submitted for top tier gaming companies.
- Familiarity with industry trends and the latest game design tools and technologies.
Additional Information
The Video Game Design Mentor will be supporting our client with making video game projects with a set deadline under their schedule. The mentor should also have innovative ideas for promoting our client’s work to land a job in the industry (i.e. helping them to get their games published online!) We’d love it if you are already currently working with a gaming studio OR recently completed a project with a company.
What You’ll Do
- Work closely with an aspiring game designer: Develop personalized guidance and feedback to help them identify their strengths, overcome challenges, and refine their design skills.
- Share your industry expertise: Utilize your personal network and industry connections to attend gaming events together.
- Create a supportive learning environment: Foster a collaborative and encouraging atmosphere where our client feels comfortable asking questions, exploring ideas, and receiving constructive criticism.
- Stay up-to-date on industry trends: Continuously research and learn about the latest advancements in game design to better inform your mentee and stay ahead of the curve.
Other Requirements
PLEASE NOTE: You MUST be familiar with the following gaming engines to be considered for this role. This will be questioned during the screening process, so please only apply if you know them very well:
- Unity
- Unreal Engine
- Roblox Studio
- Construct 3
All other engines can also be included for 3D animation: Maya, Blender, Z-Brush, Womp, Tinkercad, etc.
A BONUS if you know C# coding skills
