Job Description

CNN Digital is seeking a temporary Associate Photo Editor for the CNN Visuals photo department. This role will work overnights to support the 24/7 news operation and is a 3-month assignment with the possibility of renewal. The responsibilities of this role include:

• Supporting the Photo Desk in researching and producing daily and long-term projects
• Assisting in the selection of the best images for CNN stories, homepage, and live coverage
• Assisting in research and production of photo essays and galleries
• Writing captions and headlines for photo essays and galleries
• Producing photo loops, photo splits, and screen grabs from live satellite feeds
• Ensuring quality control on graphic or sensitive images
• Working with the Rights and Clearances team to ensure proper licensing of third-party images

Requirements

• 1 to 2 years of photo editing experience in a newsroom
• A solid news background with understanding of various themes
• Strong news judgment and ability to work in a fast-paced environment
• Preferably experience at a digital news platform or news photo agency
• Knowledge of photographers and photo agencies worldwide
• Interest in photojournalism industry and trends
• Experience with photo editing software such as Adobe Photoshop, Lightroom, and PhotoMechanic
• Experience with Adobe Premier and Illustrator is a plus
• Familiarity with SEO and web analytics is a bonus
