Job Description:

This Research Fellow role involves conducting methodological research in Machine Learning for human behaviour analysis. The focus is on developing new approaches and implementing novel methodologies to advance behavioural modelling, aiming to make a real-world impact. The role includes working at the intersection of Machine Learning, Choice Modelling, and Mathematical Psychology to develop new Data-Driven Behavioural Models (DDBMs) that combine strengths from each discipline to understand individual decision-making. The position is part of the ERC-funded project “SYNERGY,” where the successful candidate will contribute to cutting-edge research in machine learning and human decision/behaviour analysis to shape future policy making in areas like transport, health, and the environment.

Requirements:

The ideal candidate should have research expertise in Machine Learning with a specific focus on analysing human decisions and behaviour. They should possess sufficient theoretical and technical knowledge in machine learning and demonstrate openness to new ideas and approaches. Proficiency in a programming language, particularly R and/or Python, is strongly recommended. Additionally, the candidate should have the ability to work in a multidisciplinary team and contribute to methodological research bridging choice modelling, mathematical psychology, and machine learning. A keen interest in shaping the direction of research and making significant contributions to the field is essential.

Additional Information:

This full-time fixed-term position will be based at the Institute for Transport Studies at the University of Leeds. The successful candidate will work under the guidance of Professor Stephane Hess and collaborate with researchers in the Choice Modelling Centre.
