Job Description

We are seeking a Software Developer to join the Data Science & AI Programme at the NIHR Innovation Observatory (IO) at Newcastle University. The role involves contributing to the enhancement of OpenScan, a cloud-based data science engine. This includes refining data ingestion pipelines, standardising health data, and developing search and analytical tools to support horizon scanning and evidence synthesis research.

Key Accountabilities

  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of OpenScan’s data pipeline using Python
  • Engage in data collection and processing, managing structured and unstructured health data
  • Utilize data transformation techniques and support databases like MongoDB
  • Integrate large language models and generative AI into data processing workflows
  • Collaborate with teams, maintain documentation, and communicate technical progress

Requirements

  • Proficiency in Python programming, web scraping, and data manipulation
  • Experience with web crawling libraries such as Selenium and Beautiful Soup
  • Strong programming standards for clear, testable code
  • Knowledge of data collection, cleaning, and processing
  • Familiarity with source code version control systems like GitHub
  • Desirable skills include cloud computing, Java, JavaScript, NoSQL databases, Elasticsearch, and generative AI technologies

Qualifications

Undergraduate degree in Computer Science or a related discipline; postgraduate degree is desirable.

Additional Information

  • Salary range: ÂŁ29,605 to ÂŁ32,982 per annum with excellent benefits
