Job Description

GeoData, part of the School of Geography and Environmental Science at the University of Southampton, is looking to hire a Software Engineer with expertise in PHP, MySQL, CSS, Javascript, HTML, Python, GIT, Docker, and Linux. The role involves working on the development of web applications across various project stages, from database interfaces to web mapping applications using spatial data for clients in academia, industry, and government.

Requirements

Qualified candidates should have a computing or software development qualification (or equivalent experience), demonstrate knowledge of web development and data management technologies, possess good analytical and problem-solving skills, and showcase an interest or existing skills in working with spatial data and web maps. The position is suitable for recent graduates or experienced developers, as training will be provided for less experienced candidates.

The position is full-time on a 3-year fixed term basis initially, with potential for extension or permanent status. Benefits include 30 days holiday, bank holidays, 6 additional “University days”, and an excellent pension. The work environment operates on a hybrid system to accommodate personal interaction in the workplace.
