Job Description

The Democrat & Chronicle, an award-winning news organization and part of the USA TODAY NETWORK, is seeking experienced, high-octane journalists to fill temporary digital producer positions at our newsroom in Rochester, N.Y. The ideal candidate should be a digital-savvy editor proficient in writing headlines, SEO optimization, editing video, managing social media, and crafting engaging push alerts. The candidate must have prior digital news or story packaging experience and be detail-oriented with strong collaborative skills.

Responsibilities

• Edit, produce and publish content, optimizing for SEO and digital best practices.
• Manage home pages to engage a loyal audience.
• Monitor SEO trends, track progress, and make content recommendations.
• Edit sensitive content for clarity, grammar, and style.
• Direct and edit breaking news reporters.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in communications, journalism or related field.
• Strong writing, editing, headline-writing skills.
• Proven experience in search engine optimization.
• Excellent news judgment and communication skills.
• Experience with advanced storytelling techniques across platforms.
• Ability to work under pressure, multitask, and adapt to changing environments.
