Job Description
As a back end web developer, you will be responsible for maintaining and improving the website (thevarsity.ca) by working on software upgrades, assisting with the digital magazine and handbook, and collaborating with the front end web developer on redesigning the main website. You will work under the direction of the managing online editor and features editor, partnering with a front end web developer and magazine web developer.
Requirements
- Current post-secondary student at U of T
- Interest in journalism and digital media
- Experience with LEMP stack
- Experience with modern JavaScript
- Experience with WordPress or sysadmin tasks on WordPress
- Working knowledge of Linux command line environment and basic shell scripting
- Background in user interface design
- Proficient in writing PHP
- Self-reliant and adept at troubleshooting
- Team player in a fast-paced environment
- Strong communication skills and detail-oriented
- Hardworking, self-motivated, organized, and punctual
