I’m an alumnus of Carnegie Mellon University, where I recently graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Creative Writing and a minor in Game Design. I worked on a plethora of creative projects during my time there, and one of my favorites was developing a tabletop role-playing adventure module set in Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings. This experience provided invaluable insight into how to break down a story into game mechanics and present it to readers in a digestible manner. We were no The Lord of the Rings experts. But through research and engaging with as much of it as we could, my team and I did our best to accurately portray its lore and tone while still maintaining our own creative flair. Additionally, we researched how other adventure modules tackled this, analyzing which features were appealing to readers and what could be improved upon. This was a four-person team effort in which we both worked together and delegated work to create this book as efficiently as possible within a limited time.
I’ve developed a keen eye for evaluating content and providing constructive feedback via the numerous writing workshops I took during my time at Carnegie Mellon University. Writing was an iterative process in which I balanced the critiques of my peers and my own skill to create something that I was ultimately proud of. It also resulted in my proficiency in discerning narrative structures and stylistic elements. These skills have also proven quite useful in my own leisure, as I’ve spent the past several months writing my own fantasy novel.
Finally, I have spent roughly the past year working as a General Merchandise Expert at Target. In this role, I have further refined my communication skills. Assisting and directing store guests is a very different type of communication compared to working alongside a similar group of like-minded peers. The atmosphere is also breakneck compared to anything I had experienced prior. I’d worked under pressure before, but adapting to the daily rush has demonstrably strengthened my resiliency and problem-solving.
I am so incredibly excited to have the opportunity to discuss my qualifications and potentially join your team. Thank you for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
Gabriel Gonzalez
