I am composer Andy Kotz and AKMusic Productions, based in the United States in the Minneapolis.
I compose for several domestic and international music production libraries that pipe music into the television industry, along with occasional film and trailer projects, advertising opportunities and various other musical projects… as they happen along. Having started out as a “guitarist for hire” based in southern California… I did 14 years of studio sessions and touring the world for recording artists until my move to Minnesota in 1997.
My sister and filmmaker Cristina Kotz Cornejo soon thereafter, asked me if I’d be interested in composing music for her short student film while she was studying at NYU.
I did it… and the result was a “Best Original Score” award at the 1999 NYU/Tisch Film Festival for her film The Appointment.
I decided to consider a career as a music composer. Well… the financial success part of the "career’ hasn’t quite panned out yet, but I still do it.
It’s an unfulfilled passion… music.

My sound design submission for the 2019 Berlin International Sound Design Contest… featuring the short, animated film “Escape”.
To celebrate the release of Symphobia 4: Pandora – the next generation scoring instrument from ProjectSAM – MetaPop is putting our scoring skills to the test… in a white-knuckle soundtrack challenge. We’re supposed to create our own score for Pandora’s ominous trailer, using a selection of free sounds (at least 3 of the samples provided) from ProjectSAM’s Symphobia 4: Pandora.
My sound design and game score clip for FPS game Star Nexus (still in development as of 2018). This is unofficial and I do not own the rights to anything but my music and sound design.
My submission to the competition for composers sponsored by Orchestral Tools featuring their new sample library “Modus” (by Jeff Russo).
The Brief:
"Compose a piece of music (45 seconds to 2 minutes); as a soundtrack for the outdoors. We’re looking for a hopeful, inspiring piece of music. You can use any audio you want: e.g. sample libraries, phone recordings, or whatever you have to hand to record with.
Compose a piece of music (between 45 seconds and two-minutes long) depicting the moment a new universe is discovered.
We’re looking for a composition that tells a discovery story. Whether the discovery is good/bad/scary/hopeful… that’s up to you!"
This my entry to a competition put on by Spitfire Audio, who teamed up with HBO’s Westworld to bring composers an exclusive competition, judged by the show’s creators. Composers download and score a scene from Westworld Season 3 (episode 5) for a chance to win some amazing prizes – as well as the opportunity to showcase our film scoring skills to the best in the business.
My score submission of an episode from the action-superhero series “The Chronicles of Jessica Wu” for 2019’s California Independent Film Festival.
My trailer music submission in the 2017 Indie Gathering Film Scoring Competition for the film “Roman Citizen”.
This was a demo trailer video I made for the video game from Square Enix - 2015 “Just Cause 3” Trailer Competition that I never got to enter because I showed up too late to the party!! But they (Square Enix) provided the visual files that I assembled into the video you’ll see here.
I then proceeded to do the sound design (mostly explosions and gunfire) followed by the actual musical score. I chose to do an electronic/dubstep influenced piece of music to bring the energy… not really sure I succeeded because I never got a chance to submit it… but it was good practice anyway!!
I scored this short trailer for the composer competition put out by Sonokinetic (a boutique sample library), to determine a first and second place winner and great prizes.
