The Summer Children is a captivating folk band led by Aayushi Karnik. Aayushi’s journey from India to the United States to pursue an education at the prestigious Juilliard School’s Undergraduate Program for Jazz Guitar showcases her dedication to musical growth and exploration. With her band, she aspires to blend the heartfelt essence of Americana music with the dynamic improvisation found in jazz, resulting in a fresh and unique musical experience.

The band’s philosophy revolves around creating music deeply rooted in Americana tradition while infusing it with the adventurous spirit of jazz. The Summer Children is composed of members hailing from diverse musical backgrounds, contributing to a rich tapestry of influences that culminate in a distinct and innovative approach to songwriting and storytelling.

Troublemaker features seven new songs by Karnik, as well as classic songs such as Willie Dixon’s “Spoonful”, B.B. King’s “Every Day I Have the Blues,” and Barry Mann, Cynthia Weil, Jerry Leiber, and Mike Stoller’s “On Broadway.” The album showcases Karnik’s versatile and complex jazz harmony and vocabulary and places it into a blues and rock context. The next great blues guitarist is here, and her name is Aayushi Karnik.
