Midori Sketchbook Location Sketches
I have a sketchbook that is purely to improve my observational skills where I draw on site; these were drawn at Kew Gardens as I was draw to the fantastical shapes in the statures that contrasting nicely with the organic garden.
Drawn using fineliner pens and then a loose layer of alcohol markers to block in the shapes and colours. Poem Illustration Commission
A client asked for an illustration to be accompanied with a hand written poem he had composed. Since al ot of the image was to be taken up with the text, I decided a border illustration to surround the text was the best fit and allowed me to fit in a lot of details.
I really enjoy pulling imagery directly from the text itself so I made sure to ask the client for more photos so I could really personalise the illustration for them. I pulled references from the text like the drums, the dad’s car and the foliage and incorporated my own references to expand on the information given to me.

I am very detail oriented illustrator and I enjoy pulling verbatim descriptions form the text to add to my illustrations, in the scene where Sophie and Michael are talking to the fire demon Calcifer the text mentioned 'wizardly things hanging from beams - strings of onions, bunches of herbs and bundles of strange roots' and I made sure to illustrate all of that. I love to make the worlds appear lived in.

Garbage Griffin Colouring Book Cover
The cover of a colouring book called Garbage Griffins which started out as a challenge on Instagram and I collected all the images I created to turn it into a colouring in book. It was a month long challenge so in all I created 31 colourable images as well as the cover, end pages and illustrated check list.

Armoured Unicorn
A self initiated project with a focus on mythical creatures placed in a detailed environment in this case a unicorn. To match the medieval style of the armor I decided to also include a white hart in the background as that was often mentioned in medieval folklore.
I used a lot of reference photos of flowers and plants to keep a realistic aspect which worked well as I love depicting the natural world.
Even within the armor I added more intricate details, there are a host of mythical creatures hiding in the armor design, a small phoenix and mermaid on the breast plate, a dragon on the sitting platform and a unicorn on the haunches.

To make the piece feel more cohesive I researched various dinosaurs that were alive at the same time as the T-rex, during the Cretaceous period, and included a selection of the more popular ones.
