My name is Ayla Clarke. I am a freelance illustrator based in Durban, South Africa. As far back as I can remember, I have always loved creating, whether that be with a pencil or a paintbrush. I am skilled in watercolour, acrylic and digital mediums, as well as linocut relief printing. My illustrations draw from my own experiences from childhood with a focus on the intimate - friendship, family and nature - as well as the magical and imaginative. I am inspired by folktales, the beauty of the natural world and animals, but most of all imagination. To translate the quiet contemplation of a daydream into a beautiful image is my favourite challenge to tackle. I am able to work in a variety of different styles, often combining mediums to tailor my art to the job requirements and objective. I value clarity of instruction and communication with collaborative partners to create the best final product possible. I possess excellent time management skills and I have an eye for attention to detail and precision. I have experience taking an illustration from concept to completion and I am confident I am able to produce high quality work. I have collaborated on an educational project utilizing illustration with ASI Wise, the internationally accredited education in Ayres’ Sensory Integration in the UK and Ireland, who specialize in using sensory integration in the clinical practice of occupational therapy.
