Hi, my name is Jiantao Hu, you can call me B.T., means Busy Tao, because I’m always busy. When I was 15, I was admitted to Fine Arts School Affiliated to China Central Academy of Fine Arts, and got the Top Grade Scholarship from the school. On March 28, 2014, my work Escape had been selected to attend The 60th Anniversary Exhibition of China Central Academy of Fine Arts, which was hosted in the Chinese Art Museum, the biggest and most important art museum in China. Now I’m 18 years old, and become a freshmen of SAIC, the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. My illustration work Escaping Lung Fish had been selected as the Most Inspirational Work in the Autodesk Design Competition which was held by Autodesk USA. Another work had been selected to participate the Exhibition to honor Martin Luther King and his contribution, it was held from Jan. 22 to Mar. 22 in Chicago, by Hi USA. For me, illustration is a mode amongst many ways of communication rather than a simple survival skill. I think Art is not just an artist’s personal act, it should reflect a kind of social concern and disseminate the social group's voice. Thus, I always use my spare time participating different social activities as much as possible. For example, every year since 2007, I have engaged in art competitions and won numerous awards. I drew the illustrations, cooperated with my schoolmates for a book of Zhou Ji Dao Dan, which is published by Shan Xi Publishing and Media Group of China in July 2013, ISBN:978-7-5378-3916-7. I served as a public education assistant in Shenzhen OCT Art & Design Gallery last summer. I think all these experiences are very important to me, they have enriched the source and inspiration of my creativity. I think that the art of illustration has relatively free scalability, in its rich forms and various applicability. It can be picture books or comic strips based on hand-drawing, and also can be posters, covers of books or package designs through many different ways of graphic design. Illustrations even can be used directly on products, such as fashion products and many other consuming goods. In addition, in my opinion, the individual illustration works can also contain a lot of humanistic thinking, present artistic exploration in depth, and, last but not least stand as unique pieces of fine art. To be continued......
