Hi, I’m María del Pilar Bedoya Gómez, a painter and illustrator based in Toronto, Canada. I was born in Medellín, Colombia and became a Canadian citizen in 2010. I started studying at the University of Medellín in 1997 in the Faculty of Law and Political Science, but my passion led me to painting, which I began formally in 2005 with Jorge Gómez Silva. Since 2010 I’ve pursued painting courses at the Toronto School of Art with Paul Robert Turner, focusing on figure, portrait, and clothed figure works. I’m actively involved with Remart, the Network of Women Artists of Medellín, since 2018, and MAI Colombia International since 2019. I was the illustrator for the cover of Riding on the Colombian Saddle Horse (Asdesilla, 2021).
