I’m a musician who specializes in singing and songwriting from Los Angeles, California!
I moved from Columbia, MO to CA to study music in college. I am studying Commercial Music with an emphasis in Vocal Performance and graduate this month (December)!
It is possible that I’ve always had an interest in singing and performing but that didn’t completely reign true for me until I was in Show Choir in high school. Singing (recording or live) and performing give me an amazing feeling that I truly cannot describe or find doing anything else.
I have been songwriting since I was 10 and have been constantly practicing and trying different styles of songwriting. Songwriting is one of the few skills I can confidently say I have advance skills in.
When it comes to singing I can sing a variety of genres to scatting in a jazz tune, to singing pop rock that is Japanese rock-inspired. My vocal range goes from a D3 to F#5. I cannot do runs unless I practice them but where I lack in runs I exceed in melodic leaps, I love singing leaps and creative ad libbing! (my favorite is a major 6 interval). I also love singing in different languages! My favorite language to sing in is Japanese, but I also enjoy singing in Korean, French (it’s difficult but fun) and can sing in other European languages due to classical training like Italian and German. I am also always willing to learn to sing in more languages! Sometimes I find it is easier to express when a song is in a language you do not completely understand… I wonder why that is?
With songwriting, I try to write about relatable things that can comfort others in some way. I write about inner struggles (trauma), different aspects of love (the good and the bad, the passionate and the madness of it), death and the grieving processes, anger, the world, and honestly anything else I can get my hands on, I love a challenge! I don’t often write about simpler things, but I plan to experiment with that in due time. The main genres I write are pop (?) ballads and pop rock! You can always guarantee I will incorporate jazz chords in my songs somehow. I write them via piano and they tend to be either angry, or more commonly, sad boi vibes but again, I love challenging myself so I work on more positive and encouraging songs when I have the inspiration to!
I am mainly inspired by Japanese bands like King Gnu, Tokyo Incidents and Co Shu Nie, Jazz artists like Ella Fitzgerald, Chet Baker, Esperanza Spalding and Jazzmeia Horn, and songwriters like Cody Fry, and other random artists and songs like the songs from Steven Universe and Korean artists like Lucia.
I may not have a lot of professional experience but I have a lot to offer and I am incredibly easy to work with. Hope you will consider me!
