The provided prompt for this assignment was to create a campaign that surrounds your choice of world issue. Beyond Bars, is a campaign that strives to bring awareness to the unethical practices performed by zoos. For the final version of this design, we were required to lay everything out in folded eight-squared poster.

My design direction was to create a simplistic, yet powerful, illustration that could communicate to the viewer an animal’s reality in the zoo. First, look at this image, you can see that they are the animals’ habitat, but then after a second look- you can see these are insanely small habitats of animals that are usually the most sought out at zoos. My goal was to show that even though a zoo can try to make these “habitats” as “comfortable” to the animal as possible, they will never be able to replicate the size and true home the animals were once part of.

Concept:
A hot sauce company that brings the heat by offering a range of unique and flavorful hot sauces inspired by the regions where ingredients are sourced. Each mascot connects to different regions in the world along with selective ingredients from that particular location.

Time length of project:
2 weeks

In the summer of 2023, I was one of ten other students given the opportunity to study abroad and be part of the Typography: Then & Now, DECHIT. This abroad trip was to allow students to learn and push the boundaries of typography, thus giving us the opportunity to learn Europe’s design culture.
The three countries were Germany, Switzerland, and Italy. Each country was specifically chosen because of its contribution to the history of typography and graphic design. From the beginning, students were provided a field guide to keep notes, memories, and process work done in our workshops. The mission of the field guide was to help us compile information etc, to help with our final project; a book dedicated to the trip and how it changed our relationship with typography and even the trip experience.

My book, Plethora, focuses on the power of graffiti and how it holds the ability of being able to evoke emotions more than your everyday San Serif or Serif, help the designer convert their message with more power, etc.
